Grandma's Baked Apples - Portuguese Style

Posted on September 20 2021

The Oeste region in Portugal, holds the country's largest production of orchards at 40% - the mild year round climate provides the essential nutrients and soil for excellence in the quality and different types of apples.  Our family grew 2 types of apples:  Golden smith and Royal Gala.

We prefer the Golden Smith as it's a firm and succulent apple, perfect for baking.

Ingredients:

6 Golden Smith apples cored

6 cinnamon sticks

6 tsp of brown sugar

Pre heat oven to 360 F

Wash and core the apples

Insert a cinnamon stick and 1 tsp of brown sugar in each apple core

Let it bake for approx. 25 - 30 mts. if you like them softer leave them up to 40 mts.

Enjoy.
